Hello folks. I have been gathering info here for quite sometime. I have learned alot about acoustics, and so forth, and cannot thank this community enough for the knowledge.
I am currently involved in a not for profit renovation of an old 1900's era church building. The build is no longer used as a church.
The building will be the" Sanctuary Of The Arts ".
Location: Oakland,Ca USA
Purpose: Multipurpose, gathering, music playback (Loud dance music. Lots of bass) also doubling as live recording room. More on that later.
Budget : Flexible based on necessity
Building construction:Timber, lathe and plaster(interior and exterior)
Isolation requirements: strong Iso required, due to neighbors being as close as 10 ' away from building
My main concern for now is being able to Isolate the GIANT stained glass windows. See the Sanctuary will be having gatherings that go through the night till the next morning. The first gathering there was fantastic, but the police were called due to noise. The building is in the city ,but also neighbors a residential area.
These stained glass windows are our weakest link. I need to come up with a solution to isolate as well as keep it acoustically friendly. The windows are aprox. 20' in diameter for the round one and aprox 20' x 10 ' on the oblong window.
On the exterior, there is Plexiglas covering the windows.
Idea 1 : Make acoustic/iso panels that can be moved into position(on a track or something) when called for, and moved away to view the beautiful glass.
Idea 2 : Do something with some thick plexi or glass that can be permanently installed inside and out
Ideally, we would like to see the beautiful glass and not cover it up.
The problem I see with Idea 1 is weight. Panels of this size will be pretty heavy ,especially with 2 leafs
I have attached a picture of both windows.
Thats all for now > I am looking forward to hearing feedback and Ideas
Thank you for reading
I need to do something about this by the end of April
Anybody with ideas, or maybe a similar situation, please flow them my way.
I have searched the boards to no avail on my situation
