Hi!
I'm Jan from Slovenia, Maribor. There are not many places here I can turn to regarding acoustic treatment and design.
Just a quick question here. I currently have a 10x3.5x2.5m garage, with 2.5m being the height. This year I'm planning on building a studio (a total budget of ~10.000€) based on one of John's sketches for a friend of his (he posted the sketchup file some time ago) and here's the link http://johnlsayers.com/Stuff/Paddy2.skp. Now I have two options and would need your advice.
(1) Should I lift the ceiling and make it 3.0m high? Or is 2.5m enough? Will it make a big difference? I will have 2 rooms and 5 clouds hanging from the ceiling (3 clouds in the CR and 2 in the LR). The second question being...
(2) what kind of rockwool should I use for the clouds and should I make all the clouds the same?
and also...
(3) If anyone perhaps knows, the empty space in the back of the CR, is it supposed to be the space with the hanging rockwools for absorption? And will this be enough treatment for my space?

A couple of comments on your control room:
First, it is not symmetrical. That probably needs fixing. You want it as symmetrical as possible.
Second, you have no space for bass trapping in your rear corners: One corner is a door, the other is a couch.
If you could move the door over to the middle of that rear wall, you would go a long way to solving both problems!

Thanks for the reply!
I think it's doable, yeah.. So I just make bass traps next to the slot resonators on the back wall symmetrically. One more question. Will the two parallel walls in the control room (left and right) cause me any problems? Should I have a diffuser on one of them to break the reflections?
Thanks again for all your help..
Yup! You want to keep the room as symmetrical as you possibly can.So I just make bass traps next to the slot resonators on the back wall symmetrically
That's not a very big room, so diffusors would probably not be a good idea. My guess is that absorption would be a better idea: You could make your entire back wall absorptive, several inches deep (except where the door is, of course!), plus the bass traps in the corners. - Stuart -Will the two parallel walls in the control room (left and right) cause me any problems? Should I have a diffuser on one of them to break the reflections?
Thanks very much. I guess I'll move the door to the center of the back wall.. So the two parallel walls and parallel doors on the sketch below marked with red and green won't be a problem?
