Great, we're on the same page then...
Agreed.
How difficult would it be to soffit-mount my 8050's in that wall?? Would gain some space...
I can not answer that. you know how comfortable you are with construction. There are several threads dealing flush (improperly called soffit) mounting. I consider it one the best things a person can do to improve their monitoring acoustics.
And what about adding insulation on the front wall (in the case not soffit mounted) to prevent reflection from wall??
You have to build something there to get away from the square dimensions. The room/monitors is a system. Front wall absorption is an option, in designing the entire monitor/room system.
If you could post the Sketchup file I could show you what I mean.
It is attached. Please correct it with proper dimensions and locations of windows/door/furnace etc and post the corrected file WITH A NUMBERED CHANGE IN THE TITLE. This can be an excellent room, with proper design. Andre

Great, thanks! Now it's sleepy time here in Sweden... Well (04.00) for me! Nighty! //Jamzone
Construction is getting closer and I have a question for you Avare: Did you mean that I should flush-mount the speakers or does this design work with free standing speakers also? I'm not planning to do that! That's why I asked you about the insulation in front wall. Like drawing:
