Hey guys,
I'm in the midst of designing a building that contains 4 Rehearsal rooms a large studio and a small office.
I've been researching around for what will be the cheapest solution to make sure that no sound leaks from the rehearsal rooms into the studio. I was looking at double studing with two layers of 16mm plasterboard with green glue in between. But i was wonder how a single layer of barrierboard in it's place will compare?
Cheers
Chris
P.S the floors will be floating and the walls from the rehearsal rooms are about 4 metres away from the recording studio walls.
BarrierBoard???

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written in the post. Many others who are very helpful, will not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.
But anyway:
How much does "barrierboard" cost per unit of mass? How does it compare in density? Those are the basic questions. If it is less dense than plasterboard (kg/m3), then forget it. If it is more expensive per unit of mass, then forget it. If it is both considerably cheaper AND considerably denser, then it might be worth looking at. But I doubt it will be both. Also, what technical reference papers and independent acoustic lab tests are there on "barrierboard"? Plasterboard is a known, tried, and proven method of sound isolation, with stacks of technical literature and laboratory tests, going back dozens of years or more. Can you say the same for barrierboard? Plasterboard is a well studied, known quantity: it works. And "barrierboard"? Who knows...I was looking at double studing with two layers of 16mm plasterboard with green glue in between. But i was wonder how a single layer of barrierboard in it's place will compare?
Are you sure you want to do that? Did you read this thread carefully: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8173the floors will be floating
Hey Mate,
That's kind of what i was getting at.
Has anyone had any experience with Barrierboard (i know it's only in Australia).
It's very new and was wondering if anyone has tried it.
Cheers'
