Hello everybody, this is my first post so i should start with a brief introduction. As you can see, my name is carsten and i'm from berlin, germany. I'm here on Recording Studio Design since end of 2006 and have read nearly all threads... and learned 'em by heart...really  And of course I've read rod's excellent book (not only one time). So far. So good. Unfortunately there are still a couple of questions left. Here's my first: Are there any benefits from floating the walls/ceiling even if one doesn't float the floor? Of course I read the "is a floating floor"-thread and I used the search-function a lot. Oh, and I was unfaithful  I read a lot on studiotips.com and on homerecording.com and so on and on...but I choosed to stay here and only ask my questions here (a few of you are on different boards anyway, aren't you) One floats a floor to reduce impact noise (snare, bassdrum,...) Walls reduce airborne noise. (This is really simplified) But! Flanking noise produces airborne noise. Otherwise one wouldn't hear but just feel the snare from downstairs. The walls and floor start to "become speakers". This is correct, isn't it? So. If the flanking noise (the impact noise from the band 2 floors downstairs) excite the walls of my just properly build unfloated double wall/double leaf system through the unfloated floor I will still hear the band playing? Wouldn't at least floating the walls prevent 'em from getting excited through the unfloated floor? And therefore reduces the flanking from other in my recording room? Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill and the difference is not worth mentioning/worth the money? Just to make my introduction complete: The problem: I've got a room in a building where flanking is a problem. Goal: Minimize sound-pollution -> see Circumstances (and yes i know this will be far beyond soundproofed ;) I'm not longing for silence due to the fact that my budget is only approx 7k € The control room will (later) only be treated. Solely the recording room will be a double layer/double leaf system. (Don't get fooled by my drawings: there will only be plasterboard on one side of the room-boundaries) Room-Specs: The whole room: 47m² L-shape Recording Room will be ca. 17m² Control Room will be ca. 17m² (L.W.Sepmeyer-> 1: 1.14 : 1.39) a small Storage Entrance respectively: "twee lounge" -> for detailed informations see my sketchup file Circumstances: I can't afford a floating floor. (See -> Goal -> Budget) I'm on the 2nd floor and it's concrete. Structural-engineer-proofed (permission to build a room within a room). Rehearsal rooms are in the basement. (Flanking in the walls. The floor seems to be a lot less excited). Neighbours won't be a big challenge. Most of them are craftsmen and leave at 8 p.m. I'll start a building-thread when the real work beginns... Thank you for this great place! Carsten
