Hey, I was reading one of my textbooks from school "How to Build a Small Budget Recording Studio From Scratch, 3rd Ed." by F. Alton Everest and Mike Shea.
In the back it lists some sound absorption coefficients for some fabrics. I know many people suggested placing burlap over your panels once they were complete but for Medium velour, at 14 oz./sq. yd. it has a .75 @ 1kHz and .70 @ 2kHz absorption coefficients.
My question is do you think if I were building bass traps with 4" thick 703 with this velour as the covering for the frame panel, would that be the best of both worlds, being that the 4" 703 would absorb the lows and the medium velour would absorb some of highs.
Does anyone have an opinion or experience with these scenario?
Velour vs. Burlap

Rigid fiberglass already absorbs highs, so the goal of fabric is to not reduce the absorption by being reflective. Unless you want that on purpose for bass traps, to intentionally absorb less mids and highs.

So is there any advantage or disadvantage of using the same size fiberglass for your side panels as you do for your bass traps (other than aesthetically)?

Sorry, I don't understand your question.
What I mean is "Since the fiberglass absorbs more than just highs, should i use the same thickness on the side wall absorption panels that I use for the corner bass traps? I'm planning on using 4" 703 for the corner traps. Should I use the same 703 thickness for my other acoustic panels?
Once again, I apologize if my wording as not been very concise.

Side-wall reflection are mainly a mid/high frequency problem, so two inches thick is considered adequate there. But four inches gives more bass trapping, which is always welcome. So if cost of materials and intrusion into the room are not an issue, four inches thick is even better. --EthanI'm planning on using 4" 703 for the corner traps. Oh ok, thanks a lot Ethan!
