I have 4 sheets of foam insulation (4'x8'x1.5") Would this be any good for soundabsorbtion panels or sound deadening panels? I've read the DIY post on how to use 703 with a wood frame and fabric, but would the dense insulation be as useful? Thanks.
Depends on the type of foam! If it is closed-cell foam, then it has practically no effect at all acoustically. If it is open cell, then it might be useful. If it is specifically meant to be acoustic foam, then it will be useful, if you use it as the manufacturer intended.
I believe it's open cell foam. I thought about wrapping it with rockwool and using it in the corners as a bass trap.
I believe I used the same material, (from home depot) in my duct silencers... Little to no effect on sound... big mistake. But too late for me,... save yourself!
I have to disagree with the saying that this product, as we speculate, has no effect on acoustics or sound. If it is in fact a closed cell sheathing, it is reflective, at least in the highs. It still isn't of any use in this application:)
Thanks for keeping me accurate, xSpace! You are, of course, correct. What I should have said was that closed cell foam has no useful effect as an acoustic absorber, and no useful effect in this application, just like you put it. Man, but you are sharp! Always spotting the little details! :) - Stuart -

Another reason to be diligent in any product research. Ya gotta read the label! :ahh: W
Very true xSpace. One of the perks of posting here. :) W
