Ok, I am purchasing a house with a 24x32x7h basement. The stairs run right down the middle of one of the 32' walls. I am having trouble coming up with a good design. There is also a utility room under the stairs which is obviously unusable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am located in Fort Wayne IN. USA. Here is a terrible Sketchup drawing of thr basement. Note. The room on the left of the stairs is usable. I would like to have a sperate CR, LR, and ISO/Vox room. My budget is approx. 7K USD. For construction. I do not have neighbors very close on either side, but I would like to have good sound isolation from the rest of my house.

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written in the post. Many others who are very helpful, will not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.
Is that better??? Please let me know if I am missing something.
Hi TJ. I wonder if you could explain more about what the rooms are like. Many details that are known by the builder may not be evident to those looking on. I assume you have a concrete basement, some one else that may have better information for this build may not have this information readily available. 7K may not get what you want. How much are you willing to do physically? Isolating from the home may require much demo of the ceiling, it may not. But this is one of the details that you know, and we can only guess at :) Any existing windows doors, poles, beams or hvac? I know you have heard it before, but you get out what you put in.
Thanks for the reply. I have been reading this forum religiously for months now. The basement is concrete and there is existing central air/heat, but I am unsure about fresh air intake. The basement is also finished, but only with fake tile and wood paneling over the concrete walls. The only labor I am afraid to do myself would be the framing, and whatever extra electrical I need. There is also drop ceiling which I forgot to mention. I am aware that will have to be ripped out insulated and decoupled with isoclips. I am really in need of help with utilizing the space in an acoustically sound manner. I am working on a more accurate sketchup drawing right now and it just froze. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! ait , I got it . I'm gonna attach what I have so far.
I am having trouble posting my sketcup file. The file is too big. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to make this work??
Regarding your SKP files: Yeah, they get really big, real fast. It seems to be some kind of bug, as when you delete parts in your model they do not actually get removed from the file, so it just grows and grows.... You'll have to find some other place to upload your SKP files, then link to the from here. Regarding your layout: Is there any chance you can rotate / move / bend that staircase? Perhaps but a 90 degree corner in it part way down? It really is in the way! If not then you'll have to live with it, but if you can move it, it might make things easier. - Stuart -
