Did any see the new inventors last night on ABC.
A Sydney acoustican has invented a fabulous product called sound wave.
It's a green coloured glue that aids in acoustic dampening on plasterboard walls!
The funniest thing was he won for originality!
Jump on the web site and have a look. It's very interesting. He's making he's version from a food bi-product and says it's only 3-5cent a sq metre.
I hope he can get it made without getting in trouble for copyright.

I couldn't find any references to that product on the web site. Do you have an exact link directly to the relevant page? It sounds fascinating!!!
I believe he's referring to QuietWave. It's actually not something you apply like GG, it's more like a sheet, you staple it to the first layer of drywall then apply the second layer as usual.
yeah, you're talking about QuietWave. I didn't catch the show but I was told about it the next day and dialled it up.
I don't want to be a cynical bugger but I would imagine, although it is claimed to cost 3.5c/m^2 to manufacture, it will cost a fair bit more to purchase!
I think I might email them for a quote and see what they say.
I'd sure be interested in hearing about those prices! I'd also like to see the kind of specs that Green Glue has on their stuff, with complete tests done by an independent lab. If you do write to them, maybe you could ask for that too?I think I might email them for a quote and see what they say.
i emailed them and received a reply saying they'd been swamped with inquiries and they would get back to me
here's their website

John, have you used any of their other products in any of your projects? Just curious. They make some interesting claims for their products: I'm wondering how accurate those might be, and how well the products work in practice.
No I haven't Stuart - I only found out about the company after Lilith told me about them winning the New Inventors show, I normally watch the program but that night I didn't.
here's the show

the adelaide dealer for acoustica sent through the "technical info" for Quietwave but it doesn't look much different to the pdf you can view on their website anyway... the main difference is that they compare how the product performs to a system set up exactly the same but without the Quietwave inserted between the layers of drywall.
There is no mention of who/where these tests were carried out or whether the results are published by an independent source...
Plus there's a bit of extra info on how to build a good sound absorbing/blocking wall, but printing that info here would be like submitting a one page summary of the bible on a religious studies forum.
I'll printscreen the main features and post.
Here's a photo of where the Quietwave would be installed in a double leaf setup... sandwiched between two layers of drywall on either side of the main insulation.
The rep didn't give me a quote but I thought I'd give him a buzz and get a rough figure.
Thanks for posting that info!
I noticed that their "test" doesn't say anything at all about how it behaves below 100 Hz. It appears that they either weren't able to test low frequencies, or didn't like the results they got when they did test them, or maybe they just don't think anybody cares about the bottom couple of octaves on the scale!
To be fair, if the intended application is just normal residential houses and office buildings (not studios), then I guess its forgivable that they didn't test below 100 Hz, but if the intended application is for studios, then I'd definitely like to see how it performs at the low end.
Here is an excerpt from an email from Acoustica:
Quietwave is available in 1.3 m x 8.0 m = 10.4 sq m rolls.
The price will be $14.11 per sq m plus gst plus freight ex sydney as we do not have a reseller in Tasmania yet.
Not really cheap at all .....
Hmmmmm... so it costs them 5 cents per square meter to produce, and they sell it for 14 dollars per square meter.... Sounds like the rest of us are in the wrong business! I don't think I can ever make 10,000 % (roughly) gross profit by just recording music...
Nishi Grover, National Sales Manager, Acoustica Pty Ltd has sent me their brochure.
You can download it from here
Thanks John! Appreciated. If you talk to him again, maybe you could ask about why their graphs stop at 100 Hz? I can't see any data in there for the low end of the spectrum.
Thank you John.
