Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I have this problem: when I'm in my iso room playing drums, I can't hear my girlfriend yelling at me until I stop playing and she's pounding on the walls trying to get my attention.
Any tips for wiring a big ass RED light (like you would see outside a major studio for a "session in progress"? A simple switch to complete the circuit.
I'm pretty good with wiring but I'm not exactly sure how to wire it, and I can't find a big, red, siren-sized light at Home Depot. Something like this:
This is going to depend on how you want to wire it... If you want to wire it in the wall, you will need to tare out some drywall and install a switch and a junction box to house the light, then tie both of those to a power source.
My suggestion, get a wireless intercom. That's going to be easier.
But if you want to go down this path, a quick google search found
this
Good luck!
We ran low voltage wiring for this. I forget the guage, but will check for you. My brother does this and security system installs for work and has it all dialed up.
We're calling it the pizza beacon.
Hey Kirkbross,
A couple of ideas for you - My room is not yet complete, but I bought a Krown Phone Flasher, which is a bright strobe light designed to flash when the phone rings. I wanted it so I could tell when a phone call was coming in, but to be silent in case I was in the middle of recording a take. For my Recording sign, I bought one of those wireless lamp switches, so I wouldn't have to worry about hard wiring the sign. If you can simply find a beacon that plugs into the wall, one of these switches would complete the package. The switches cost about $12 on ebay shipped - search for HandySwitch. Also I searched for an inexpensive Recording sign, and finally bought a fluorescent sign from the ebay user "mfshop2008" for something like $30 shipped. It shipped from overseas, so it took a while to get, but I'm very happy with it, and with the wireless switch I can put it where ever I want.
Hope that helps!
