i have 430mm cubed chunks of high density foam that i am planning on placing in band rehearsal studios as seats. Just wondering how they will effect the sound, i am told they will absorb a lot of low end. the rooms are roughly 25sqm with 3 of these chunks of foam in each room.
i am also planning on covering the foam in vinyl, will this have any effect on reflections/absorption? or should i use a different fabric to gain more benefits?
seating/ottoman basstraps?

Hi,
any soft material will absorb sound, at what freq and level depends on the thickness and density. Like when you 1st move onto a house and there is no furniture, the room will be reverby and boomy.
Vinyl how ever will stop the air being absorbed. I would choose an open weave fabric.
The effect of the 3 otto man will only be know after you try it! But I think not as much as you would like.

thanks for the quick reply!
i have a heaaaaaap of vinyl that was i planning on using, but i also have a little bit of some more open weave fabric. i will do 3 and 3 and try it out.
im almost hoping it doesn't make that much difference so i can get rid of all this vinyl!
