Hi Darcy, The graph comes form this paper: http://www.box.net/shared/jcaoavdc8g It's a rather technical and complex paper about building walls with good isolation in commercial and residential buildings, with lots of equations, graphs and detailed explanations, but it does lay out some good principles and show how they designed and tested many different things to arrive at their conclusions. It's old (1973), and long (229 pages) but very good, if you have the time to read it and the mathematical background to understand it. Regarding your sound system: One you get your acoustics in order, and since you are downsizing the room anyway, you might find that you aren't actually underpowered at all. But if your console is aging, then for sure you might as well get a new one. However, maybe you should already start considering what kind of system you are going to put in there, and how it will be arranged, since the sound system and the acoustics need to work together. I'm thinking that you'd probably do well with a true LCR system, with your main cluster flown roughly over the front of the stage, and your side clusters flown more or less at the edges of the stage, or even up to about one third of the width in, towards the center cluster. Are you planning on using sub-woofers too? If you do your acoustics right, you'd have a space where subs would help nicely to round out the bottom end. But maybe the configuration and installation of live sound systems is off topic for this forum? I'm not sure. If anyone thinks it not appropriate to discuss that here, then please chime in and I'll shut up! - Stuart -
