ok, i know ive probably got bad, bad room dimensions (ill post them when i take them, but for now lets say they are 2250 (H) x 2450 (W) x 4750 (D). my setup will be along the short wall) but i just have to work with it (you can only piss with the cock youve got, eh? lol). so, what are the 'standard' acoustic treatments that a room should have? i plan on building some corner bass traps (behind monitors in corners), slot resonators (each wall left & right), maybe something on the ceiling above/behind me. am i heading down the correct path? :-)
Hai esoul, There's some excellent docs about just that on Ethan's site! (forgot the URL, but it's posted numerous times on this very forum) Basically you need absorption. Slot resonators (tuned) are used to address specific frequencies. Diffusers are more used in larger rooms. "standards": Corner(bass)traps, cloud and wall panel for RFZ, aborption panels on walls, bigger aborption at the opposite wall where the speakers stand. etc. You can't really speak of "standards" since no room is the same, but there are some common treatments to start with indeed !
ok, cheers. ill have a look for ethans site. 'absorption' - yeah, ill remember that. wtf is a tuned slot resonator? tuned to your specific room? and, wtf is 'RFZ'?
Okay, you've got some more reading to do. clearly :P  Please, take a few days to read this forum. There's excellent info on every little detail you ever wanted to know when it comes to building studios. Things like RFZ (Reflection Free Zone) and Tuned (or Helmholtz) resonators are on this forum. Really :)
oh, ive got plenty more reading to do! ...but little time! ;-)
haha, don't we all! sigh... oh, well.
im just trying to get this damn laminate flooring fitted! lol
ok, im now at a stage when my gear will be moving in! so... What dimensions do basstraps need to be, is the size and angle of the traps dependant on the room size or speaker placement? Also, are there any sketches or diagrams you can point me to that show where wall and ceiling absorbers should be located? cheers
cheers! looks like ive got a bit of reading to do. ;-)

told you :P so, got any pix from your build? we love to see your treasures! (eh, not THOSE treasures, haha) Thanx for the links Ethan.
got a few pics, but theyre at home and i mostly post from work. not nearly as many as i wouldve like to if i was documenting it. but doing a construction diary was more work than i really needed at the time. ill probably get round to doing it when im finished and sitting in the room. but for now, its DIY ACOUSTICS!!! ;-) i could post this though - "studio"(cough - lol) layout and acoustic absorbers (guess) locations:
