Please help with Soffit Height

Hi there, I have some Event 20/20 bas 8" powered speakers and I have already started to build john's soffit design in my C/R. I have read and researched and am stuck on the top cavity height. So would somebody please tell me does it make any difference or not on the top cavity height? Cheers Mike
