Hey Everyone,
Ok, so I have been researching building bass traps for a long time and there are so many ideas out there! This forum seems to have the most intelligent posts I have seen overall so I decided to ask everyone here my questions!
1) Some bass traps I have seen online are fabric covered with 703 or mineral wool underneath while OTHERS say you need to make a caulked, air tight wooden box with 703 or mineral wool inside... which one is right? Are they both right? Whats the reasoning behind the disagreement?
2) Concrete tube traps have been beaten to death in these forums as being bad... but how bad? I have a friend who has made some and is getting rid of them.. they would fit perfectly in my amplifier room. Should I not even bother or do they have some usability?
3) I have contacted an HVAC store and they are trying to sell me this rigid fiberglass that is "just like 703" with a foil backing they say I can just rip off... is this legit? I have found mixed results from searching this online. What do you all think?
4) Do I really need to do a superchunk corner trap to get a good bass trap? I often turn to Ethan's website for advice and I notice he does not talk about superchunk traps.
That is all for now! I am finishing building my studio and look forward to adding to the discussion on this forum! I have been in the recording business (non professionally) for 8 years now so I look forward to helping wherever I can! :P
Thanks in advance,

Help with basstrap confusion!

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written the post.
Thanks AVare for informing me! Next time I wont be so quick to post without looking through everything first. I have found many of the answers to my questions from searching around and reading. As I said, my future posts will be more thoughtful in relation to the forum rules.

PS: I looked around for a way to delete my post and could not find one, so if an admin wants to delete this, go ahead.
hi midnight,
There's different type of trapping devices. Plain panels of wool, pressure or velocity panels, resonators etc.
Did you know this, *great*, forum also has a acoustics part especially for these kinda questions? go check it out, don't forget the stickies.
Also check Ethan's site. I'm sure you'll find a link once you've read the acoustics forum... take a few days of I'd day :) (to read)

Both are right because the first will be a broadband absorber and the second a pressure/membrane trap (for specific acoustic problems frequencies)

Can´t say because i´m no expert at this, just trying to share some common facts about these subjects

Depends of the kind of trap being build, if it´s a broadband absorber it´s ok to rip off the the foil. wha´t important is the density of the material being used, be shure to check that out

No, "normal" broadband absorbers (basstraps) do the same if u cover the corners with them. Some do it top to bottom some don´t, depends of the room. it´s just a differennt approach
hope to clarified something :)
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for giving me some advice even though I was not following all of the posting rules. It really helped me out!

Let that be your guide!!!
haha, thanks.. I guess him getting rid of them should have been my first clue :D
