hello, I’m starting my home studio, it’s meant for commercial and personal use, I’m from Venezuela and I’m sure you’ll trust me on this, there’s NOBODY who knows how to build a freaking studio right, no one here takes care of acoustic s they just wrap the whole thing with carpet and that’s pretty much it . I’ve been reading a lot here on the forums and some books I managed to buy and download that gave me a few ideas of how to do it, but I don’t really trust myself. Hiring professional services from outsiders would be pretty much impossible for me. Because of government policies, it’s illegal for us to buy or own dollars, if you have a credit card they’ll allow you to use 400$ to buy on internet and 5000$ if you travel, and you’ll be required to send invoices of all your purchases even for the cup of coffee you had at the airport, but that’s another story I’ll be glad to tell you some other time.
Now back to business, I figured there’s plenty of people here on the forums who even run companies involving acoustic solutions for recording studios, and they have always been helpful to me and others, so I’m asking for you to give me a hand with my particular project, to the people that have gone thru the same thing and can give me some advices, and to the experts that contribute with this community every day with their knowledge.
So here’s what I think you should know:
first this is the area avaliable:

•The rooms height is 2,44 meters (+- 2cm).
• The blocks of the wall are15cm width, including the frieze it’d be like18cm.
•In my sketch room 2 would be the control room, supposed to be for programming and mixing porpoises, there wont be mastering done in there. Room 1 would be recording room since it’s practically apart from the house, this room in particular most be great for tracking vocals and acoustic instruments, including drums (if possible).
• The water pump starts like 5 or 6 times a day when there’s no housekeeping, and a lot more when there is. It’s really noisy though I think this is the main problem I have, I’ll here any ideas on this subject, nevertheless the water pump cannot be moved from its place.
•There’s Noise and vibration leaks through the whole structure coming from the A/C unit on the roof, the recording room is the less affected by this, that’s why I chose it. I think it may be plausible to decouple the unit from the house, like a floating base or something and treat the bases with fiberglass.
• the ceiling is made of a plate filled with light concrete (I don’t know the world, in Spanish it’s placavaciada de concretoligero), the walls are made of blocks and cement, finished with frieze . The floors are made of different materials but I’d be replacing them for wood soon.
•I’d be a 8 to 12 input channel recording studio.
•The dual layer window would be placed between the two rooms. If you come up with a new design I’d like to keep the window anyways. So it’s a must for me.
•The tiny rectangular area in the recording room would be closed and used as storage or a vocal booth, I rather the storage space since I’ve read a lot of bad stuff about booths acoustics .
•If you think the space might be inadequate or impossible to work in, I have the option of building on the roof of my house where there’s plenty of space, but I’d rather find a solution in the space currently avaliable economics wise.
I wonder if we can work togheter the make a neat design, and have some pointers for acoustic treatment solutions.
If you need more info please post it and I’ll comply asap.
Thank you all!!
