Just ripped everything out of my basement to start work on my home studio in Richmond, VA and wanted to get some input from everyone here on the board. The room is an above ground basement with two doors and two windows and its dimensions are 20'x11' with 7.5' ceilings. I know Ethan has mentioned that narrow and long rooms are not the greatest spaces but it's all I have to work with. I mix and record heavy metal so things can get pretty loud. I have a corner lot Tri-Level house with the closest neighbor about 70' away. I plan on making this just one open room for tracking and mixing. I will be adding Auralex's RC-8 Resilient Channel's on the ceiling and front wall to reduce noise into the adjacent rooms. I also have some sheetblok that will go onto the front wall since this leads into the foyer and living room and need to keep those rooms fairly quite. I plan on building a wall on the back and left sides with a 1" air gap since there are only furring strips on these. I also need to design two window plugs for the left wall because I can’t fill these in if we decide to move in the next couple of years. I will be covering up the front door and widening the back entrance for easy access with gear. I will have to run some tests once the ceiling is built to see how loud it is throughout the house but I think I'm going with one layer of 5/8" drywall everywhere instead of doubling up. If the noise is too great I may add another layer of 1/2" and possibly more sheetblok depending on funds. I don't think I'm going to float the floor but haven't completely decided, again money is an issue. My original Idea was to try and get it done under $1000 but after cranking an amp in the middle of room and hearing how loud that was I know it will cost more.
Here are the pictures of what is done to date.

Here are the plans that I have made.

Tan = Bass Trap
Orange = HVAC

Last night I began hooking up recessed lights and noticed how old and chewed up the wiring is to this room, so that has to be changed first. I think I’m going to put the R-channel's everywhere now instead of just the ceiling and front wall, that way if I find I need to float the floor in the future everything else is already isolated from the structure. Are there any other things I should think about before I start with the insulation? I figure the walls are down now might as well fix it while I can.
Thanks,
Terry
