Hey everybody. Been reading everything I can about building a proper studio and this site is awesome! But maaan there is a lot more to this. So I'd like my first post on the subject to be about money, and what you think about what I'll have to work with.
Studio part of the build budget. Around 300,000.
Gear wise I'm looking to use half of it.
So I'm looking to do a fresh build in a warehouse with concrete floor. It would consist of
Main control room 15'x20'
Control room B 15'x14'
Main Tracking room 17'x20'
Vocal booth 7'x8'
Iso booth 5'x6'
I will have around 16 foot of available ceiling height to work with.
Glass to tracking room from both control rooms.
Glass from main control room to vocal booth.
Control room b mostly an idea edit room so all the fancy room treatments not as important as the main control room.
Main control room will have 5 JBL LSR 6332 soffit mounted for 5.1 mixing.
Am I completely reaching for it thinking 150k will get me all these rooms properly designed, and built including all electrical, and Air?
We have a lot of guys involved for labor. And many of them are decent when it comes to building things...
Or should I plan smaller?
Thanks
Kelly
Now that building seems near, my head is spinning.

When someones head spins here @Xit 4, Alabama you see a lot of trees. What is seen where you live when a head spins?
Hello BOYKELLY,
As Mr. xSpace said. A spinning head can, at times, be very interesting.
My advice to you (for what it is worth, I am no expert) would be to read the forum guidelines. After that, perform whatever changes you feel are needed and marvel at the results you get. Information wise, that is.
Best regards,

I've fixed my location. Not sure what else. I'm posing a round about "am I crazy?" or is it possible?
The tech stuff would def come earlier.
Oh and when my head spins, I simply get dizzy. Can't see anything. Too much info to process at one time.. LOL
I have a feeling I'm going to be here quite a bit for the next year so I want to get the rules right..
Thanks again

HI,
Are you renting this warehouse? Will you build your self?
It's a big investment for some-one with no plans yet!
Sketch-up has a great plug-in that calculates $$$per materials used.
Say youv'e got 4 main materials 1) pine 2) plaster board 3) flooring and 4) Insulation...you can tell the program how much each is worth per metre(foot)
It's rough but......

I'm just starting to learn sketch up. That's cool that it calculates material costs. I have read somewhere on here that it's pretty off though.
Yes, it's a lot of money. There are plans, for what we want to do. I just didn't put together something for the purpose of going out and getting an investor. My partner with the money is someone that I've worked with for the last 6 years. He came to me with the idea. I think this sort of thing happens all the time.
He is talking about buying a building. It would be a way to bypass some of the property gains taxes he's going to get hit with from selling a couple of his properties in order to make this happen.
Thanks again guys
Kelly, a few of the things I can still remember are these: It is most difficult to design or otherwise develop the interior of any type of dwelling where nothing exists :)
From what I have seen and heard, people say what they desire but the actual building shows up, and it is completely different from what they may have hoped for.
Even new builds can do that! Start one way and end up going completely in another direction. Some projects have walked in with large numbers being thrown around, only to dwindle in size and scope or disappear altogether.
Having a month long reading session here doesn't hurt you a bit while trying to locate a building.
It is very easy if you follow the online tutorials first. AndreI'm just starting to learn sketch up. That's cool that it calculates material costs. I have read somewhere on here that it's pretty off though.
