I was searching through the web somewhere and came across an idea about using bottles filled with insulation.Has anyone tried this, have any pics, and or which frequencies does it absorb? Also,I've been trying to help my 'lil bro out fixing up his small studio.I like the idea of using the bottle thing, mainly because it's using recycleables,so I was wondering if there's anything else out there that you have/seen used that's using old recycled things.?ONE more thing,a while back I built a garage and had an old broke-down fridge outside and was needing a work bench,so I took my sawzall and cut one of the sides off the fridge and used it,I know it's filled with some type of insulation/foam very tightly packed, the bench I made was an inch thick.Would it be possible to used that as a bass asober or would the metal be a hindrence?Hope ya'll undestand my jumble and ANY help would be most appreciated!!!
I miss Saturday morning cartoons too.
Soooooo, you're telling me none of them will work or you're just being a smarta** ?
I'd doubt that x would fit in the profile of the latter...
The idea of the bottles has legs as I first suggested it a while back. Each bottle would act like a helmholtz resonator and the different bottle sizes would broaden the frequency range. I figured that if you had a range of different sized bottles and you stacked them against a wall they would act as low mid absorbers plus add diffusion to the room.
Thanks John!Could you give me that link where it was discussed? Not sure exactly what 'legs' mean. And I will apologize for what I said to X,I have a hard time keeping my thoughts in my head instead of saying them
Yes, by measurements. Prediction of such resonators is not easy.
I can't find the link scair - basically if you blow across the top of a bottle it will make a note - if you record it you should be able to find it's frequency on a realtime analyser. Stuffing it with insulation will absorb the note. If you had a range from 4 liter (1gal) up to small coke bottles you should get a fairly broadrange of absorption and if you stacked them against the wall they should offer some complex high frequency diffusion.

Legs suggests that the idea has some merit...it can walk on it's on, so to speak. And you do not have to apologize to me boss, you called it right. But, there was no harm intended, just that people like to re-invent the wheel and they often never take the time to figure out what the wheel really is. I say, no harm no foul, if thats aw-ite with you?
Aight!Preciate it fellas!.....Yeah,THAT bottle by itself on a wall would be cool
Might even have some diffusion properties to it. Any way you look at it, that would be a conversation piece.
