Hello, I am from South Africa and we do a similar/the same product but it is called "energylite" I am confused as to which combination of density and thickness to use. ie is it better to have a thicker board with a lower density or a thinner board with a higher density. Their website is as follows; http://www.isover.co.za/content.asp?subID=14 The physical properties are listed there I just need to know which one will be best for wall pannels and bass traps and how many layers I would use on top of each other or do I just use one board? Thanks guys! :)
Hey there, isover only sell huge qauntities, way more than i think you will need in tons actually, they also dont have any rockwool stock for the next few months, fibreglass is a pain to work with, if you are interested i have 60kg/m3 rockwool available that im using for my acoustics, its irritant free and much better to work with than fibreglass its also more dense and better for panels. I can get hold of other acoustic products aswell in south africa if you are interested.
Hello Seanpace, As you mentioned - ISOVER are the people in South Africa. This was the same company as Owens Corning, just bought and sold a few times in SA. CAVITYLITE - Energylite 47.5 x 50mm in rolls in 1200mm x 5.0m ROLL This is exactly the same thing as 703 Rigid Fibreglass panels. It is 47.5 Kg / M3 or 3 lb/cubic foot. They sell it in different thicknesses, but this is perfect for your application. The rolls are approximately R400 per roll EXCL VAT They are out in Kuilsriver and I found them to be very helpful. I believe they will sell you less than tonnes of the Cavitylite. They also stock SONIC LINER for Lining Air Conditioning ducts, in various sizes - 25mm and 50mm thicknesses in 5 to 10m rolls. How much to use? - The thicker the panels the more effective the absorbtion, but typically people use from 50mm to 100mm of the 47.5 kg/M3 Cavity lite. This is pretty standard. Sometimes people use 50mm with a 50mm air gap behind to save on fibreglass costs. There are many posts on this Forum about making your own panels, often with great photo step x step guides. See the Stickies as well. PreludetoJune is right that they dont expect to have Rockwool and that the fibreglass is a pain to work with, but good protection, masks, gloves ETC and work outside and it is not so bad. Good luck Marz
How about ISOVER Sonepanel... the right stuff imho.
Hey guys,.... If you are in South Africa and have trouble buying small quantities of mineral wool (IM475) , OWA sell single bats (1200 x 600), for approximately R55-00 per bat.
