is a window worth it in my scenario?

I am expanding my room, gonna be taking on a bigger control room on the other side of my live room and will have the space to put in a small window to view inside the live room. until now I've only been monitoring via a camera (sometimes), and other times just via talkback. my question is, my room sounds killer right now and I know putting in a little four foot glass window across one the of the available walls will slightly change the sound of the room. not to mention, as per my acoustician's notes, it will weaken the overall structure of that particular wall. the two main reasons I would put the window in are as follows: 1) will help in communicating with clients in the live room. 2) the overall aesthetic of the room will be improved, from a layman's standpoint... I get a lot of people asking where the window or booth is. I've actually lost a few jobs from this. my other option is to just put in a flat screen t.v. on the area I want to put the window in, and install another flat screen on the other side to have a virtual window of sorts. the virtual window allows for all sorts of variations in positioning my desk in the new live room, plus might allow me to have multiple cameras in certain areas of the live room to hit any blind spots I might have with just a window. a big plus about virtual vs. real is probably less labor intensive and in the long run probably a bit cheaper. thoughts would be appreciated. oto
Oto - I like visual contact and windows are best for that - where are you intending to put it relative to your exiisting room?
hi john- this is the general consensus. I will get a pdf uploaded of the floor plan for you/other's to check out shortly. thanks! oto
"not to mention, as per my acoustician's notes, it will weaken the overall structure of that particular wall. " /quote Maybe if the acoustician does it. The weak part becomes the glass and not in a structural sense either. Done by competent hands, you lose no integrity in the ability of this wall to perform as it should.
I will double check what he meant by that... good point, esp. as I am hiring him to do the work. he did a tremendously wonderful job in my live room, sonically and aesthetically. http://www.madpan.com/studio/ btw, he built the panels off-site and came in to install them. I can pull them off if/when I decide to move. the window would be where the drum nook is. oto
oto - what's more important is where the window is in the control room.
absolutely.. there's only one place the window can really be.. I will draw up a rough plan and post it. thanks. oto
