Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the design construction of a studio off the back of my house... Sound proofing is really important as my nieghbours house is about 15 feet away (my other neighbour's house is probably 30-40 feet away. I'm looking into building the studio using ICF construction.. (INSULATED CONCRETE FORMS).. here are the details... The studio will be approx. 8 feet high 12 feet wide & 18 feet long (inside wall dims) My plan is to build 4 complete walls that are not attached to the house (just beside it..) except where i'll be putting in a doorway to connect the studio to the house for access... The studio will also have one oustide window (natural light) as well as a door leading into my back yard. My plan is to build the structure completely out of concrete (the polystyrene forms that form the cement walls stay in place after the concrete in poured, and as i understand it the inside walls can be finished in drywall (no need for insulation) and the siding can be put on the outside walls. The roof/ceiling will also be made out of ICF concrete. My question is.. Is this a good material/method to use for a sound studio? Soundproofing as i said is really important... Ideally I'd like to be able to use this room at any time of the day or night with out fear of disturbing anyone... The plan would be to be able to record live drums in this room (among other loud instruments) and have it sound proof enough to be able to do this without consequence...
Hi I see this post is a few years old, but I'm in the exact same boat as you (ICF, recording drums, close nieghbours..). Just wondering where you are at with your structure? Thanks
