Hey guys, Ive been reading alot of stuff on this forum for the last 2-3 weeks as we are currently in the works of building our own studio. First off at the moment this design is all theoretical. Altho the dimensions cant really change too much as weve disassembled a butchers cold room for all the panels/ceiling - which is made of some sort of tin or something with what Im guessing to be polyurethane foam or something close to (about 2-3 inches thick).
The dimensions of the whole studio will be 6mL x 3.5mW x 2.4mH, with it being partitioned into - Control Room - 4.5mL x 3.5mW x 2.4mH - and Mic Booth - 1.5mL x 3.5mW x 2.4mH (approximately).
We are going to build this studio (with the cold room panelling) in a shed which is just next to some retirement flats (yes this is an issue!). Ok, so on to the acoustics - we are going to order the Auralex Deluxe Plus Roominator kit - Click here. I was originally going to build all the absorbers/bass traps but time is something we dont have all that much of anymore, so we opted out for one of these full room kits.
The flooring will be cement, which we are going to cover with carpet. Oh and the Mic Booth will be carpeted aswell, and Ive ordered some Egg Crate Foam - Click here - to cover the booth with.
Ok so on to the questions -
1. Does the layout of absorbers/diffusors look like it will be effective? Obviously I am going to check the positioning of the panels above and directly to the sides with a mirror. But yeah I havent really read to much about diffusors. Are there any changes you would make to the positioning of the panels?
2. Do you think the foaming for the mic booth will be sufficient?
3. Do you think that the room will be very sound-proof?
4. Is there anything you would change positioning wise?
5. Also I was planning on soffit mounting the monitors, but now I dont really have enough time to do that at the moment - so, whats the best alternative? Speaker stands? Ive had a bit of a look for some speaker stands on ebay and I cant find any that will mount my Mackie HR824 mk2's...?
Hope Ive covered everything...
Theoretical Acoustic Design

There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post. Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will not reply if you do not do what is written the post.
Sorry if I havent given enough info, but I actually was reading that post while I was writing to try and give enough as possible... What did I miss?
In general, you will need much more bass trapping than you will get from that room kit. It includes LENRDs, which help some in the midbass but don't have much effect below 100Hz.
To answer your specific questions:
1. I'd put all the diffusors on the rear wall. I wouldn't bother with foam absorption on the front wall.
2. No. Even if that is real acoustic foam (which is debatable), you will still need bass trapping in the booth, even more bass trapping proportionately because it's such a small room.
3. I have no idea how sound proof the room will be, as this will depend on the construction details. Are you building a room-within-a-room, 2-leaf system? Please understand that foam (or any acoustic treatment) does NOTHING for soundproofing, but will rather help improve the sound inside the room (if they are good products installed correctly).
4. See above #1.
5. Yes, I'd use speaker stands. The heavier and more massive the better.
Well,
JWL high the nail right on the head.
All thre room treatments in the world don't amount to an ounce of isolation (there's no such animal as sound proofing).
Rverything begins with what you intend to do first to isolate your room from those peope who live next to you. That has to come before you even think about room treatments.
