Hi everybody I am finishing my studio and have 14 bass traps full with rock wool (isover it's a European product ) .I also have the whole ceiling covered with 3" rock wool . My would like to cover whole ceiling and the bass traps with thin nylon-plastic foil first and then with some fabric . Is nylon foil good idea or not ? Thanks
No thoughts on the foil question, for I just wouldn't know. Another question though... you said you used Rockwool, and then you continue by calling it Isover. Isn't Isover a brand of yellow fiberglass rolls and Rockwool the stuff in green packs consisting of mineral wool? Just to clear my mind :?
Yah, "Rockwool" as a brand while wool comes in, atleast, 2 types: glass- and rock wool. confusing? yup! Isover's just another brand carrying glass- and rock wool. 'bout the question. covering your basstraps might be an idea to keep the room from being too boomy since those traps also absorp a great deal of "highs". Dunno the rest of your acoustic setup tho. Any panels on the wall? Is the sheet higly flamable? Check that, just as the cloth. You will want to keep it safe all the way.
i have on the ceiling in live room , control room and drum both 75 mm - 3 " of isover . 4 corners in all rooms are covered with bass traps with 150mm - 6 " isover insulation . Thats all i have right now for acoustic treatment i was thinking to install some difusors later . My question was actually if i should cover the isover on the ceiling ? Or should i leave the ceilng covered with some fabric only(no foil) and cover the traps with plastic foil ?Or ceiling with foil and bass traps without etc ...
Okay. I'd add some to the corner basstraps and leave the ceilingabsorbers clear as for now. If tests, you are gonna test right?, proof the room's too dull you can always add sheets to the ceilingabsorbers or remove some.
Thanks Ro , that was my idea too , yes i will do a lot of testing .

Sure looks like the yellow fiberglass-wool to me... I remember that for I have used it in a previous house in The Netherlands. I also did some commercials for Isover over there, a couple of years back, and all they wanted to advertise was "Isover Glaswol" (that was Dutch, but quite understandable I'd think)

Rockwool carries there stuff in red/gray packages while Isover is, indeed, wrapped in Yellow. :) There's also Knauf for sale in Europe.
