I'm trying to find stc ratings on different types of doors. For example Solid core exterior lumber core standard metal clad exterior door I've ordered Rod Gervais book, But it hasn't arrived yet I wonder... will there by anything like that in there?? I'm stoked about ordering it. I got a good deal on 2 standard metal clad exterior doors, for my new control room, which is built on a 2 by 6 staggered studd wall, with osb-roll roofing-osb on the outside, and then RC- 5/8sheet rock- dona cona- 5/8sheetrock on the inside. when I picked them up, they were quite light!!! They seemed much lighter than the interior solid core doors that I used for the rest of the studio. I'm not looking for extreme isolation, as its just a control room in a quiet area of town. I just want to make sure that my door is not the weak link. when I picked them up, they were quite light!!! They seemed much lighter than the interior solid core doors that I used for the rest of the studio. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or should I just wait for the book?
Rod has advice on building doors in his book. The general guideline is if the door blank is not STC rated, then go by the weight of the door blank. The door blank you described is too light to provide any meaningful isolation at low frequencies. Andre
...and, seems like you are almost complete, why order Rods book now? Hindsight?
No, I'm no where near being finished. Its just framed with osb-roll roof-osb. I'm just caulking all the osb right now. I'm saving all the crucial points until after I get the book, as I made a few mistakes on the last build BTW I'm not even considering the standard exterior doors anymore. I'm ashamed I even mentioned it.

Don't be ashamed. If acoustics was intuitive, there wouldn't be so many well meaning disasters made. :D Writing is cheap compared to rebuilding. Good studio building is 90% design and 10% construction. Andre
