I am currently planning to build a 5.1 mixing/dubbing room from scratch. There will be a control surface, two racks and some seating in this room. I have a rough idea of dimensions required (and available) but I am also keen to gather some suggestions on shape, surface materials, ceilings, floor coverings, acoustic treatment. I know I am asking you a lot but if any of you studio design guys can direct me towards some useful information or offer advice I would be most grateful. I would also woidn't mind some further advice on dimensions - I have some leeway on this. I will also be building an adjacent Foley room that can double as an occasional live room. Any specialist advice on this would also be most welcome. I also have a bit of leeway on size for this. The rooms are for an Art & Design School and will be for students' environmental art and video projects. Ideally the rooms will be built to as professional a standard as possble but as usual budget is very tight so hiring a team of acoustic consultants and designers has been kiboshed by the bean-counters who never seem to understand that if something is worth doing its worth doing well. oh well! Hope some of you guys can help. Cheers in advance. Ronan.
