Hello, everyone! Greetings from Ohio. First post here. I am investigating and working on designing some space in my basement for a one (maybe two)room studio. I think I might be dead in the water before I begin but I'd like someone elses experience.
In measuring the height of my ceiling in the basement I am finding it to be roughly 6½ feet tall. This is an unfinished basement in a house built in 1917. Now most everything I have been reading states that the nominal height "shall" be 7 feet. So if my old house doesn't even meet code before I start am I screwed? If this was going to be my last house I wouldn't worry about it but since I'll be selling it some ways down the road I'm a little leary. Is there some sort of grandfather clause out there that anyone is aware of.
Question regarding ceiling height in basement

mmmkay. That's what I was hoping not to hear. :(
well, the other option is digging down... typically this means additional reinforcement of the foundation etc. a 6 1/2' ceiling before treatment, will likely be 6' when you're done. if everyone will be sitting down then you're not likely to have a terrible problem but it will feel tight regardless... and you'll need HVAC etc... utility access, etc... to consider
