OK. I'm still very new to this forum, and I am still doing a lot of reading as far as materials to use and such. I'm also anxiously awaiting Rod's book from amazon (looks like it will get here Monday). I am building a new room attached to an already existing recording facility. The dimensions of the room are 21' x 16' with 12 foot ceilings. Whenever available, I plan to use the space in the main room when recording drums, but I would like to keep the live room in this new space large enough that I can track drums in it when larger artists have the front room blocked out. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the layout plan I've come up with. Thanks!!!! :D

overall looks like a decent layout. i'd probably flip the CR and live room so you don't have to carry stuff through the CR... plus you could also consider opening up the door between the lounge and live room and treat the lounge so you could use that as spill over space as needed. the vox booth i'd use all of the ceiling height and use the top 2-3' for trapping. with reversible treatments you could use that for vox and an amp room.

Hey Glenn. Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm not sure if I can make it work, though, because we have a lot of out of town bands come and stay at the studio. The "lounge" area will have 3 bunk beds a futon and a tv. That will pretty much elimine that as usable recording space. The door on the side is also pre-existing through the concrete wall, so that will probably make a great entrance. I'd also like the band to have access to the control room without having to cross through the live room. I talked to the owner and he said there is a door near the corner of my live room space already that I must not have noticed. I've been reading Rod's book. I'm going to build the walls with double 5/8" drywall using the MAM principle. Does anyone have any suggestions to the type of insulation I should use weighing cost and effectiveness?
