Folks, PLEASE forgive the blatant ad, but this is slightly unusual... this piece of glass was offered to me, but I cannot find anyone in NC, SC or VA to cut it for me, so I am passing this on to the community... it's just a tad urgent to get this moved for the owner. A good friend of mine has this monster piece of glass available for virtually nothing. I'm willing to bet the first $250 bucks will take it home. He is moving from the Cleveland, Oh area and this piece of glass needs to be picked up ASAP. (like this weekend or next) You WILL need to pick this glass up in the Cleveland OH area. He cannot possibly ship it due to his schedule, so unfortunately... please don't ask. If you are seriously interested, please contact him ASAP at [removed]. Ask for Joshua. I have no interest in this transaction other than to help him get this piece of glass to a good home. Again, I apologize to the community for such an odd post, but with all the builds happening here, I can think of no better place to try to get this 1" thick piece of glass to a good home.
What type 'o glass is it?
I cannot be sure and Josh can't remember. He said it is clear and doesn't have any tint to it, so it sounds like it's not a safety glass and is probably plate or tempered plate. I won't speculated beyond that. Hope that helps. [edit] He originally bought it for a control room window addition several years ago that never materialized. So it's just been sitting in his basement for a few years... and it needs to go somewhere.[/edit]

Max, If it's annealed, any commercial glass shop should be able to cut it - it's a simple matter of scoring both sides and then using a pair of grips with a thin rubber protector on both edges to perform the break. If it were laminated you would be able to see it easily from the edge - so it isn't laminate - Tempered glass IS safety glass - and cannot be cut by any means - it's physically not possible. Rod

I think it's REAL obvious I don't know that much about glass... and after talking with all the glass shops, I think I'm even more confused! A couple of the big commercial shops I talked to kept referring to safety, tempered and plate as if they were 3 different types. Like you say, I would have thought that any commercial shop would have been able to cut it, but there's something about that 1" thickness that everyone around here is scared to touch. They'll cut 1/2" all day long, and even a lot of shops will handle 3/4"... but not the 1". Hell, I even called a local high end machine shop I've dealt with... they suggested I send it to PPG, because they had no idea how to cut it... they couldn't cut anything thicker than 3/4". GAAAAAH!!!
