Hello!
We'd like to begin construction within a month. Note that some walls were built before i came on the job but i'm just as good at tearing 'em down as i am at building 'em. What i'm looking for is an effective floor plan for a mixing room in roughly this space.
Due to the narrowness of the room, i'm inclined to not build a full room in room. However, the long wall along the two wood posts (on the left), the entry wall, and the back wall by the drain are all open to design.
We'd like to build the basic room now and can later add a 2nd leaf around 3 walls (the stairwell wall probably won't change or get 2nd leaf.) Is it totally ridiculous to think this way? Money is one factor, the other is tightness of the space. These fellas are not looking for complete isolation, but rather a nice sounding design that leaves room for improvement. They have maybe a couple thousand bucks and we're, let's say, resourceful. There's some matls there already, and i have much leftover from previous jobs. I won't make a bunch of cash, but it's still a valuable job for me due to connections it'll make.
The green hall at the top will have access from the left . Seems like a nice spot for iso booth. We can also access the space under stairs from here or we may put a header and door from within the room.
Ceiling is 143" near the drain, and 140" at the door to open joists. the concrete slopes 3" toward a basement drain. Since i'm prolly not decoupling the stairwell, i thought we'd just insulate and sheetrock the ceiling joists. Mistake?? It'd be nearly as easy to insulate the joist cavities and build another ceiling even tho it'd be connected to the stairwell wall.
Their vision is basically a mixing and control room for usually not too loud pop, electronic, etc. They will do some live recording in this room, but mostly will be used for mixing. They'd like the board to be up at the top of the room (along the green hall wall.)
Across the hall from the entry door is an existing live room that we'll access with snakes for tracking drums, etc .
