Thanks Glenn, i am going to use rockwool between my tiled roof and the ceiling board, the ceiling board im gonna use is made from wood fibres bonded with portland cement, it has great isloation properties. the floor is a 75mm poured concrete slab on compacted earth and then im gonna lay laminated wood floor so im sure that would be fine. Its too late for me to put insulation between the brick wall in the cavity but i dont think thats such a big problem as im sure the cavity will help isolation, my theory behind putting the drywall with insulation on the rooms inside is to catch alot of the frequencies, the rest should be even more damped by the cavity. so then if i understand you correct i should not let the drywall/rockwool touch the brick wall and then i should place three drywall boards onto each other onto the frame. Thanks again.
yea, i'd keep the drywall and insulation off the brick.
Thanks Glenn, i'l keep that in mind. As experienced as you are, how do my live room dimensions look to you? the pics with demensions are in this thread?
if i average out the angled walls, it seems to be OK. If looks like the room should have a good number of dense modes so broadband treatments should pull it together nicely.
Thanks again Glenn, i am pretty happy to hear you think the rooms dimensions should work nicely with treatment. Im hoping to get great recordings out of the room as they say the room is probably the most important piece of gear........
Hi guys, ive started my planning acoustics wise for my build, i have recieved a qoute from a respectible acoustication company but at the moment whats left of my budget after the roof delema is looking a bit slim, so my other option is doing the acoustics myself. Ive started with the control room. Below are the pics of my setup i have planned this far, any help would be greatly appreciated. The first pics are what i have planned using a combination of 20mm fibre board and rockwool for the bass traps in the corners (specs of the products are included), i have another option and have included it, where instead of fibre board i can use cloth and wooden frames for the bass traps as seen used alot on this site. I am still going to slant my celing at the front of the room aswell. Room dimensions are on the first pic. I have not calculated this layout using mode calcs ect i have planned it according to what i thought would be the best positions for the traps. The construction is basically a corner frame filled with rockwool OPTION 1 IS: the front of the trap is built using 20mm fibre board and then the cavity is filled with rockwool. OPTION 2 IS: the front of the trap is covered in cloth with wooden slits and the cavity is filled with rockwool. (probably the most pleasing looking option) If you perhaps have a better method for my application i would love to hear it.....

Quick update on my builds progress......... The electricity has been installed and we have added extra earthing on the building by means of a thick long solid copper rod buried deep into the earth. The builders are finishing off this week (Hopefully  ) then finally my soul can rest! The exciting part is about to start, with the painting, flooring, ceilings and acoustics. I have managed to find a company importing acoustic tiles and have placed an order for my ceilings, the tiles i will be using are the same tiles they use in comercial cinemas! Its gr8 for isolation and acoustics. The acoustic panels are also being planned and should be built soon ! I will post some update pix again soon!

One of the beauties of forums like this is seeing architecture from around the world. Is the style of your exterior normal for South Africa? It looks great! Congratulations on the build so far. In the personal/studio sense, it looks great! Andre
Thanks Andre, certain elements of the architexture style are used lately, especially the entrance and gobling, (it just breaks the flat front of the building) it seems to be a growing trend here now but this building is quite unigue, there isnt anything similar that i know of in my area except for the entrance style. I think it shouts out its purpose to the world as a studio in my oppinion, it also takes up half my back yard! haha
New pics and progress updates soon!

where?
sorry Ro, i meant to upload them by now, im just resizing, will post them shortly.
HI Prelude to June Heish China, its stress to build. real real stress. I have been looking at your build and its looking good. Material prices are sky rocketting and its not easy. You asked some question in my post. We put brickforce , i think its was every 3rd course I am busy building, drilling and bolting and things really look messy at the moment so we trying to get that out of the way and start filling in the insulation, will be putting pictures up soon. Hope to visit your area once my studio is done. Later, moemedi

The ceilings will be in by monday, i am going to spend the week end stuffing between the rafters with rockwool, underfelt and aerolite. the glass company came to fit the sliding doors, so they will be in aswell, then all that is left is the second coat of paint and the flooring and acoustics! i think if all goes well i should be done in two weeks with the building. approximate cost so far $20 000.00 US doll hairs.
Installed some rockwool today, damn, that stuff is almost as bad as fibreglass anyway. i have major flu, i dunno if it was brought on in anyway from working with the fibreglass

I had a look at the shetchup file John sayers did for Moemedi and i think it will work perfectly for me aswell, i will just approuch it differently as my tile roof is already on so there is no way of now adding the mdf and i cant risk adding anymore weight onto my rafters. i am going to go the room within a room aprouch whitch i think even has a slight advantage. I am going to put up drywalling and then add a second ceiling onto the drywall frames decoupled from the main building structure if i need any extra isolation once my build is complete. Thanks to everyone on this website for the input so far, i am so happy the build is almost coming to an end. and because of the john sayers website i ended up with a much more professional end result than i couldve ever dreamt up myself.
What happened to RO, Avare?
The studio is looking outstanding!!! i am almost complete, i will be done by next week wednesday! I have also done something interesting and exciting with my control room ceiling where the spot lights are, to avoid sound leakage through the light points and cover 6 of my room points with trapping at the same time! my broadband panels are also done! Pics soon!
Latest pics, im getting really excited its looking outstanding!! spot light sections along the wall i have boxed out and filled with wool, so they also now act as bass traps. acoustic cinema ceiling is being installed and the doors are in. monday we do our final coat of paint in the control room and then lay the rooms floor and onto the acoustic panels that i have already built.
