I'm wondering if I can use this in place of owens corning 703. Its 2 X 4 Sheets 1" thick and damn heavy. Seems to be a very dense fabric based insulation, almost like someone put a bunch of dryer lint into a pressure cooker.
Can anyone identify this material?

OOOH PICK ME!!!!
I'd say the same material used in the under carpet of our cars...
Take a look sometime - I've had to replace the entire setup in one of my jeeps because I dropped it in a big mud hole. Mold got in it and that was all for that carpet.
I know i'm wrong because it's not shaped, but it looks just like the material I used to replace it.
good luck.
MMS - it looks like a dacron based insulation that is becoming popular as it doesn't contain fiberglass.
could also be recycled/scrap (waste) cotton (felt?)...
