hello people
we are in the process of setting up a control room, PC based home studio in a very small space.
these are the dimensions:
length: 3,40 m (11,15 ft)
width: 3,14 m (10,30 ft)
height: 2,08 m (6,82 ft)
due to these dimensions we have a problem with standing (stationary) waves, such as a resonance in 51 hz, 55 hz, and 75 hz. plus we dont have any possibility of making a proper quarter-length bass trap. there are also more resonances of course, but these are the most annoying ones, the
music we intend to produce uses a great deal these frequencies.
we have tried many things to fix these resonances and we finally decided to do the following:
cancel the front corners with MDF panels.
AND we want to use internal space behind the panels as a sort of a quarter-length bass trap:
the panels would be:
one with a height of 1,66m(5,4ft) thus attenuating the 51 hz, since this is a quarter of the wavelength of 51 hz.(this is LENGTH resonance)
the other one with a height of 1,54m (5.05ft) this attentuating the 55hz, since this is a quarter of the wavelength of 55hz. (this is the WIDTH resonance)
(both with a 80 cm width - 2,62ft)
onto the upper corners, above the traps, we´ll put a triangular MDF panel, to reflect part of the sound into the trap.
the internal walls will be cover with stone wool or fiberglass, and two or tree sheets of the absorbent material will hang from top to (almost) bottom.
our questions are:
does this triangular section shape of the bass trap work? or does it have to
be completely square/rectangular?
does the size of it also matter?
are we doing the right thing?
this is the best solution we thought for our problem. the characteristics of where the room is located and other details make the optimizing of the sound difficult.
we would really appreciate it if you can help us, tell us if we are doing anything wrong and of course if this doesnt work, what would?..
thank you!
(this forum is AMAZING !!!!! )
