Hi all,
I am new to this forum. I wonder if anyone knows the difference between a audiometric booth and something like the vocalbooth.com offers and if I can use an audiometric cabin for recording music.
I need a booth for recording vocals, guitar amps and acoustic guitars in my apartment and I am considering buying an audiometric booth for that function. I live in Brazil and I can't find ready-made booths especifically for music here.
I do not intend to set the amp very loud, but I definetely need isolation not to bother the neighbours with a moderately loud Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp. The walls in my apartment are very thin and any louder sound can be heard from upstairs or downstairs.
The room is 3x4 sq. meters.
I also thought about bulding one, but all the projects I've seen so far are way too complicated for an unexperienced builder, I think, so the audiometric booths seemed the best choice for me.
Here are my options:
audiometric cabins 1
audiometric cabins 2
audiometric cabins 3
Thanks for your help!
Audiometric booth as vocal booth

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Please be advised that there is no way you could have missed the clearly marked topic on top of the forum where it says:
"WELCOME TO RECORDING STUDIO DESIGN
It's IMPORTANT that you read this if you hope to gain any help on this site!!!".
I'm no moderator or anything, in case it should seem so. We all benefit from this here fine forum, but there are some basic rules that make it happen. I suggest you read carefully, and then provide the details required and then let's talk design and construction :)
Thanks Edo. Actually, I had read that. But such a simple question like "will an audiometric cabin work as a vocal booth?" didn't seem to require much explanation, I guess. Anyway, I edited the post with more info. Thanks again.

Sorry xSpace, I should have warned that that first website works only with the Internet Explorer. All other browsers I tried will give you that message.

Seems what ya gotta do is establish how much monies you are willing to spend, then pick one of these that fits your money.
You didn't say specifically but it reads like you are on an upper apartment floor. So you would want to get one of these boxes that weighs about as much as a regular person. Anything more and you will have serious concerns with structural failure.
You would want to look at the whole physical size of the box and the overall weight to see if you can even get it upstairs and into your room.
Rather then all of that, I would rehab a closet and use it for my cabinet iso-booth.
Thanks for that. The points you mentioned are really important and I hadn't thought of weight, actually.
My main concern, however, was sound-wise, if those cabins would be improper for music making.
I do have a closet I can use as an iso booth for the amp, after some changes, so I'll consider that too.
Thks

I should have enclosed a disclaimer saying that I have never used one of these types of cabins. My bad for not saying so ;)
