Ladies and Gentlemen, Sheet lead is INSANLY priced! Seems that the going rate for 1/8"x48x21' is running about $2400/roll, PLUS shipping! If that ain't bad enough, I need two rolls! Shipping 1800 lbs 2/3 of the way across the US is doubly unaffordable than the sheet price alone! I was thinking of doing 1/8" steels plating, and then adding a layer of MDF and 3 blocks of 3" microlam beam that I have left over from the main beam in the Control Room... ... that is unless someone knows of a cheap source of 1/8" lead sheeting in the NC area.
thats why people steal it off roofs here in uk for scrap. i was on a job and they nicked it 3 times. joey
maybe a drive up to NY is warranted? I think there's a few companies in the NYC area which sell sheet lead (not cheap) but it might save the shipping costs... if not, the steel plates and MDF might be good enough.
WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Found some lead sheeting! Found it by way of Avare (Andre') over at Recording.org... Through Mayco Industries Blue Ridge X-Ray [removed], Suite 160 Greensboro, NC 1/32″ Sheet lead=$475/Roll x 2 Rolls Both rolls are here and in the studio… If I get the platform done for the HVAC, I’ll try to start on the doors! Also contacted SPI in Greensboro! Getting a quote for 1″ and 4″ mineral wool as well as fire rated caulk and putty pads.
