euh. no.
I read it said that an alternative is to add another layer of sheetrock...
ok...
that was my guess...
i asked for prices in europe and was a bit shocked that the price for doing my entire studio (250 square meters wall and ceiling) was around 2500 euro.
From time to time Dr. Earl Geddes writes about using "Liquid Nails" sub-floor adhesive for CLD. But I don't think that he did any tests on effectiveness or lifespan.
The difference between the two, green glue and construction glues, is that green glue does not "dry"(and has some chemicals in it that aid in the cld) so better creates a constrained layer damping between materials.
Construction glue forms a "hard" connection between the two materials so no damping is present but more a coupling of the two materials.
For what it's worth.
This thread provides lots of information about Green Glue and Quiet Glue. Brian Ravnaas works for Green Glue. He is one of the (probably the head) creators of Green Glue. Np one who knows him doubts his veracity.
In the linked thread he details test results for Quiet Glue, drywall adhesive, and Green Glue in recommended, 50% and 25% quantities. Green Glue in 25% of recommended quantity is equivalent to 100% coverage of Quiet Glue.
Brian has here extensively in the past. If you want more information, search for "Green Glue" and "Brian Ravnaas."

From the "Liquid Nails" web page: Subfloor & Construction Adhesive (BC-490) An exterior construction adhesive that delivers excellent weathering and aging, permanent flexibility, and the ultimate shear strength. I have no knowledge of the product, but Dr. Geddes has used it for over a decade. See pages 203 thru 210 of his book "Premium Home Theater - Design & Construction"The difference between the two, green glue and construction glues, is that green glue does not "dry"(and has some chemicals in it that aid in the cld) so better creates a constrained layer damping between materials. This I know from reading...

It is in fact a very strong bond that becomes difficult to tear the pieces apart. Maybe the good doctor had a specific type in mind, there are many and diverse kinds under the "Liquid Nail" umbrella.construction glue forms a "hard" connection between the two materials so no damping is present but more a coupling of the two materials.
And it is exactly that fantastic shear strength that makes it unsuitable for the purpose of performing like green glue. Green glue is designed to fail under shear conditions - in fact it is designed to shear under the pressures exerted by simply the sound itself - and this material withstands shear under seismic events. GREEN GLUE IS NOT A GLUE - IT IS NOT A CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE - IT WOULD NEVER PASS THE TESTS REQUIRED TO QUALIFY AS A CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE. IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVES TO PERFORM THE SAME AS GREEN GLUE. Thus - with all due respect to Dr Geddes - regardless of the fact that he has used it over a decade - if he (in fact) compares it favorable to green glue - he is very mistaken.
