Hello to all on this forum ....I am a new member but I have been monitoring this site extensively over the last couple of months and have gotten a lot of great information from it ....especially the recommendation for the "book" which I have read extensively. I am in the process of planning a music/recording room in a rural district with very little traffic ...a farm to be specific. The nearest neighbor is 5000 feet away and the counti road is 500 feet from the location of the building. I will be the double wall and isolated ceiling on a new slab in a new structure separate from any other buildings on the property. Because of cost I have to ask about the necessity of the green glue in the building of the music room's walls and ceiling. There is very little traffic where this building will be built and of course I will not be connected to any other buildings that would create noise. So as a result ....is green glue really necessary in the construction as described. I am prepared to do it if necessary but also do not want to make the investment if it is not needed. As always any advice is appreciated ...thx for a great forum. RH
This is more for the design forum. Only you can answer that question. From what you have written, I would not use Green Glue. Andre
Thank you Andre and Rod ....that really helps. One other question ...just out of curiosity ....and I know my description was brief ....but I have to ask ...do you feel the double wall construction is necessary in my application? Agian thank you, RH

Your welcome. Given the lack of details you have given, we do not know. One thing that came to mind and was going to post when I read your reply is weather. Do you have thunderstorms, or strong winds/ rainstorms? Assuming for the moment that you have no concerns about sound bothering other people, if you recorded outside in the location of the studio, what background noise would you get? Andre
Yes of course we get thunderstorms etc. Regarding outside noise .....it is quieter outside than inside my house unless ....the home air conditioner is running, or one of my horses bellows away, or a coyote howls or someone goes down the street with a car or better yet a tractor. Presently I still intend to build the double wall structure as outlined in Rod's book as well as the isolated ceiling ...without the green glue as per yours and Rod's response ... but the double wall construction does add to the costs and I want to be sure to be prudent with any money that I spend. Thx, RH
Hi Tenessee Dude, (I so hope I spelt your state corrctly!) I'm no way qualified to give you a finite answer to your question, but, I simply could not ignore your post. Please forgive me, but your poinant description of wilderness, weather, and livestock, took me immediately to around half a mile from where you live!  (In my head!) Good luck with the build bud - you're in safe hands up here! Warmest regards, Lou. 8)
Bollocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two nn's as well! Ah well...........................  Lou. 8) PS. I Haven't used a single drop of Green Glue in my build, which, if you think about it, proves (in your case at least), the main Man is right! 8)
i think if you can afford the double wall/ceiling, then the isolation is worth it - esp if you're recording acoustic instruments where noise coming in could mess up your takes... if you're doing close mic electric stuff, or its less important then you could save the double walls and ceiling for the isolation booths.
