Hello everyone.
Firstly, what a great site!!
We, The Aurora Music Project, are in the process of building our new studio/office here in the North of the UK. We teach recording and live sound workshops to disadvantaged young people.
We are located in the North of England, the business in Killamarsh - Derbyshire - UK and the premises in Doncaster - South Yorkshire - UK
Our website is here
We have acquired premises, 13.7m (l), 5.8m (w) and up to 7m high. They are not affected by sound issues too much. The case of the building is red brick and concrete block, the floor is concrete. We can change any aspect of the internal walls and ceilings. We would need to keep the external doors where they are shown. The internal wall that runs 4.49m (office internal wall) the full width cannot be moved as it is load bearing.
We will be adding the internal skin once we have the wall dimesions.
We have a plan, we are just unsure about the following points at this stage.
1. The control room dimensions/design given the attached dimensions
2. Live room design
3. We have a solid floor, do we need to float a floor?
4. And also the whole layout perhaps
We have a build budget of approx. $14,000
There is so much information on this great site for the details of the build, but we want to make sure that the control room if the right proportion before we build walls and ceilings. And also that we have not missed any obvious parts, or maybe someone has a better idea?
We would be very pleased to have any other layout ideas, bearing in mind that we need a toilet and an office.
Any suggestions at all will be gratefully excepted - thank you.

NEW STUDIO BUILD - UK

Hey there, have a look at sonar studios on the studios under construction on this site, its more or less the same size as you have, im currently also building a studio with the same dimensions.
Hey thanks for the info on Sonar, cool.
Here is an updated plan of the fixed walls and doors. The control room yet to be designed, it will be tough fitting it around the two doors, not sure which way to place it?
Once again, any ideas or help will be appreciated.
The live room will shape up quite well, with an addition of a vocal booth at some point and maybe some sloped ceilings?
The window, albeit a bit on the small side, between the CR and Live Room will be made up of two double glazed units. The window can only be 900mm wide (1000mm high). The width is kinda governed by a two storey supporting wall of about 1000mm wide, we can live with it.
This studio will be a real learning curve, and we are already thinking that we will outgrow it within 18 months so better get a move on :?
Pictures attached, sorry about the poor quality.
Cheers,
Bri
I wonder if it would be helpful to list a diagram of the room how it is now?
No wish list diagram, just something that shows all existing walls? And possibly the overall exterior dimensions could be included on the pix?
Thanks for the comment xSpace.
Yes, you are right, I'll get on with that and post it as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Bri
Okies, this is it up to now. Most of the rubbish and torn out walls etc has been put into a skip. We now have much more room to think.
We have added a plan with some photo views on it and also the relevant photos for anyones information.
We are soon to start on the inner skin.
Cheers,
Bri
AMP
