My goal is pretty much the same as everyone else - - isolation from upstairs and outside..... 2 questions: 1.) For my basement studio.....If I have double wall construction (2 5/8drywall, r19, 4" air gap, r19, 2 5/8 drywall) between the control room and live room, do I need 2 5/8 drywall on the 2 walls with the basement concrete behind them, or can I get away with 1 layer of drywall? 2.) Are there any advantages/drawbacks in using 4x12 drywall as opposed to 4x8 drywall?

Do you have a drawing of your current design? Might be easier to comment on.

You mean DW on the concrete walls or on the double stud wall?

Yeah, less seams.. but bigger size also means heavier to carry :P
Here's my layout. Please ignore the iso booth in the middle. We're not doing it. Sorry for not being clear. I'm referring to 1 layer of DW on the concrete walls. Note: We are building the walls 6" away from the concrete walls with insulation.

Is the room at the basement? So concrete completely covered with earth (on the outside ofcourse)? ifso: There's enough isolation. Only need acoustics panels. More details? (like, how heigh is the room, are you gonna make a dropped ceiling. etc. etc)
