Hi from North East Pennsylvania,
I have attached a rough sketch of my control room as it stands.
I have recently upgraded my live and iso booth rooms but
they are larger and/or easier to sonically control. I am familiar
with the basiscs of absorption and diffusion and have used many
designs from this froum..Thanks!
Things i am most concerned about are traffic flow
(everything is bunched into one corner by the door),
mix position and of course sound.
I am trying to come up with a design that will still allow
me to see into the live room at least a little bit through the window.
At this point I am more interested in room treatment rather
than building new walls etc.
Recently replaced old mixer with Neve 8816 summing mixer
so overall mix position footprint will only take up about 5' L x 3' w including pres, comps, fx etc.
Looking for best way to create RFZ in this space!
Budget: About $1,500 usd for materials..I can build most
absorption and diffusion units.
Thanks!
help upgrading control room layout

presumably that exit door cannot be relocated? the lack of symmetry is problematic as well as having the door sitting right next to the mix desk...
Hi Glen!
Thanks for your time and response!
Yeah, the room is pretty tough, the first sketch is the way it looks
as of now.
I built it when I was 19yrs old and just for my own use.
I have a couple of ideas..attached is another rough sketch
with adding a wall and changing mix position.
With proper room treatment could this work?
Or should i just move the mix position into the center of room?
38% back of course.
Hope this makes sense?
Thanks Again!
Hi,
The attached rough sketch is another idea to get
more symetry into the room layout.
What do you think about putting Mackie HR824 monitors
into wall soffit?
Thanks!
Hi,
Please diregard the Mackie HR824 soffit mount
question in the previous post.
But please do comment on room layout!
Thanks Again!
you could have the soffit mounted speakers and the bass trapping you'll need... here's an idea:
Hey Glenn!
Thanks! For the input and the great sketch!
I am going to do some figuring with your design
and report back.
Is the mix position in your sketch approx. 38% off the
facing wall?
Thanks Again!
Hi,
Thanks for the reply Glenn!
Attached is another rough sketch just focusing on the
soffit mounts and slat walls.
I am thinking of doing the 90 degree speaker placement
with Mackie HR 824's
I saw in another post that John has done rooms with the 90
degree soffit placement.
Thanks!
Eric
i would stick with the 60° angles and also plan on using the center space for some trapping.
Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the further input.
yeah, i decided to stay with 60 deg. speaker angle
and added front absorbers.
I will post my final plan this evening.
Gonna start the build this weekend.
Thanks!
Eric
Hi,
Just posting the front wall of my sketch.
I think I have decided on this..Opinions?
I also have a question about materials on the slat angled walls to my left and right at mix position.
Would I close up the back airtight with mdf (like building a hanging slat) or should I leave it open behind the Rigid Fiberglass to let more bass through to the cavity?
Thanks!
Eric
