Hello!
I'm posting this from Hungary, so please excuse me if my English is a bit bad sometimes :)
We have a band, and decided to make some changes in our rehearsal room, so we can record our music there instead of going into a studio (big plans 8) ) The room will be used only for tracking/recording. I'll be doing the mixing at home, so there will be no control room (we will be struggling to place the microphones at first time, but I think the process will be something like placing the mic / doing some recording / listening back / adjust positions if necessary and so on).
The building is located far away from anything, so sound levels / soundproofing is not an issue. The room dimensions are 4,7 m x 6,5 m x 2,7 m (WxLxH) - approx. 13' x 20' x 6'6".
The walls are made from bricks with plaster on both sides, the wall thickness is around 40 cm (1' 4"). Inside the room the entire wall is covered with 2" thick hungarocell (I don't know the english name of this - little polystirol balls sqeezed together into tables, a kind of polystirol foam - a picture about hungarocell is here: http://edak.cellkabel.hu/cikkkep/id82/nagyk/bg1.jpg) so there is this foam on the walls inside and on the foam there are cardboard eggholders covering all the walls.
The floor is concrete covered with OSB plates, and there are carpets on it.
I don't know much about the ceiling, but I think it's concrete/brick covered with plaster. There are 2 windows on one of the wall, and a door in one corner.
I'll attach a plan made with sketchup, please check it. I've tried to color code the things, let me explain: the green ones are bass traps made from 4" rockwool and wood framing. The red ones are some acoustic panels made from 2" rockwool in wood framing, they're hanged on the walls with 4" air gap between the wall and the panel. The blue ones are gobos, made from 4" rockwool. There is a platform for the drum, rockwool tables layed on the floor and 2 layers of 20 mm thick OSB on it. In front of the windows there are curtains (the seagreen color rectangles).
Of course I've have some questions :)
- Is the plans are generally good?
- Should we use some more/other treatment?
- Is the drum platform necessary, or is it enough to place the drum on the floor (concrete - OSB - carpet)?
- Are the 3 panels enough on the ceiling above the drums?
- Is the idea to place the gobos around the drum during recording good?
- Is there a difference between using one 4" thick rockwool table or using 2 layers of 2" rockwool tables in the panels/gobo?
Oh I forgot the mention the budget. So we have about 200 EUR to do this acoustic treatment. For reference: 1 piece of 4" rockwool table (1000x600 mm) costs around 5 EUR in Hungary.
Thanks in advance for every help ;)
Cheers,
Zool
