Hello guys.
i'm planning to buy acoustic foam and i'm thinking about the one shaped like egg carton.
It's cheeper than the pyramid one, so is there any big difference between these two?
My next question is, how much room i need to cover with foam, so it wont be any echo, and also that it won't be too isolated.
I don't have so good surcomstances for recording and mixing, because i have a very little room for that.
I made a simple drawing of it, so you can see where will it be good to glue acoustic foam.
Thank's
i suggest taking some time to read over the stickies on the site. cheap foam is not only not effective, it could be a safety hazard as well. bottom line - you need decent quality materials to create decent quality treatments. if you have access to Rock Wool, Rigid Fiberglass, Recycled Cotton Insulation batts, or even heavy pink/yellow insulation rolls, and some cloth (lookup flame retardant as well) you can create some effective treatments which will serve you better for little additional cost (over foam) and some manual labor.
stacking insulation rolls in the corners can add bass trapping very quickly for the room - keep the plastic cover on. if you need to, put a curtain or cloth in front of them. build some rigid insulation absorbers and place them around the room - over the mic on the ceiling, on each wall near it, and a small throw rug under it. on the walls by you computer/monitors. there are lots of examples of how to place absorbers around the room.
Thank you for your reply.
I was considering rockwool absorbers, but the place is simply too small for all that.
Plus that closet also turns into bed, so thats my room actualy.
I think you can understand why i can't have thick, dusty rockwool where I sleep at night.
I know that acoustic foam isn't the best solution, but for start... until i get some bigger place, i think i'll do.
I was planing to cover half of the room (near door, and mic) completly, door too, whole celling.
The rest of the room thats not so close to the mic, i was planning to cover by pieces like ( rotated squares, i don't know the word in english) so it will leave some uncovered places that it won't be completely deaf.
sounds like a plan... there are options though besides rockwool like the acoustic cotton, heavy soft foam, etc. as with any wall treatments - make sure they're treated with a fire retardant for safety.
