Hi there guys, let me start off by saying what an awesome site with an overwhelming amount of info. I am finally building a professional studio open for the public and would like to ask a few noob questions before i finalize my sizes with the architect. my control room and live room will be built according to sepmeyers 1.00 1.14 1.39 ratio, my room sizes therefor will be 3m height by 3.42m x 4.17 when the raw building is completed, what i would like to find out is that i will then be a puttin in dry walling and false ceilings in which will then make the room a little smaller than sepmeyers ratio, will this be a problem? or should i add in the dimensions of the dry wall and false ceiling to the sepmeyer ratio before i build so that after installation the room will be the true ratio? thanks again do you guys perhaps have a link for me to studios, pics of rooms built with sepmeyers ratio?
ok guys, ive been looking around some more on the website and ive come across a design i think could suite me nicely, let me also just inform you guys that i am no acoustic engineer so please bear with me........ The design i came across is of sonar studios in ireland on this website, i have the space in my back yard to build something like this, i will be concentrating on alternative rock (so lots of loud guitars and drums) but anything from rock to gospel, does anyone have anymore info on this studio ect as i see it hasnt been updating in awhile? or could set me in the right direction, i have been told to follow sepmeyers ratios and came up with a boring design with the control and live room just being a square room with the above dimensions, do you think the sonar design would be a better option? any help would be greatly appreciated as in sa we dont have alot of people to turn to for advice.
you should make the boundary walls the correct ratio.
thanks 4 the reply gulfo, could you please elaborate a little on making the "boundary walls the correct ratio?
Hey preludetojune. Where are you in SA? There are a bunch of souf-effricens here who can help you out with sourcing and ideas. Drop me a PM
boundary walls = hard walls that define your room(s). make these the correct ratio - so if you have a concrete shell and are building gwb walls inside that, then make sure the gwb walls are creating the correct ratio. as far as "souf-effricens" in SA, you want throughly might check out their references first; there's more than a few threads here and elsewhere regarding this...
Hi gullfo. Not trying to imply that anyone here in SA should be blindly trusted. I've been in way too many local studios designed by trusted, acclaimed designers, that are an acoustic nightmare.. or possibly merely a joke. However, when trying to source Roxul, OC, doors and other materials locally, I'm pretty sure that between the few of us who research before buying (or building), we can probably help the OP :thu:
good to see you looking out for us! cheers!
