Ok, our studio construction is almost done and it seems to turn out very well. We did a sound test the other day though where we went to the neighbor upstairs to check for sound leakage, and there is a slight leakage through a ventilation duct.
The duct goes right behind/above the recording room, and from this duct air is distributed individually to the rooms above.
Due to a HUGE oversight, the duct wasn't properly sealed before construction began. It has one layer of gypsum board so it's boxed in and the box is filled with insulation, but it's not sealed at all and even have some gaps between the gypsum boards here and there.
I've been up there, crawling on top of the recording room ceiling trying to seal the box a bit more, but it's not much more than a foot of distance so it was almost impossible to work up there and I couldn't reach properly. So the only way to reach would be to tear everything down and that's not going to happen of course.
The only thing that I can do as I see it is to fill up with more insulation on top of the recording room ceiling construction. Like I said, there's about a foot available, although it's less at place where the actual duct is. I have the opinion that it will be almost no difference at all, but my dad suggested that we could at least try.
So I want to check with you guys what you think. Would it make any difference to roll out more insulation up there? I can add that the sound you hear through the duct is kind of mid/treble sounding so it doesn't seem to be a problem with bass frequencies.
Question about ceiling

You have a picture of that? This box, it isn't filled with loose insulation is it? Yea, a picture would say so much more....in and the box is filled with insulation, but it's not sealed at all ...
Yes, it's filled with loose insulation as far as I know. Is that a bad thing? I'll bring the camera today and I'll come back with some pictures tonight! EDIT: Just realized that I already have some pictures. Since it's practically built in now too, it would be difficult to get a clear shot, so these old ones are better (without some of the ceiling). There is still enough room to get into the crawl space though, should that be needed. Ok, a view from the control room. http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/3645/dsc00393fc8.th.jpg Above the live room ceiling, with the box on the right (it looks like no space at all from the beams but they are cut down so there is about 2 inches of air between them and the box. And yes, that is poor old me in there...) http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/7797/dsc00444go0.th.jpgYou have a picture of that? This box, it isn't filled with loose insulation is it?
