Hey
First of all ive gotta say how amazing this forum is ive gained loads of info from it cheers!!
Right i have a loft which i am looking to making into a studio for my band (maybe also use it as a rehearsal space). The loft has already been converted and now i am just looking into a layout for it, this is where i have been struggling because i am totally new to the recording world. The loft has already been split into two sections which i am hoping to make one a control room and the other a live room.
Soundproofing is another issue which i need to look at because we have neighbours next door and also we are quite close to surrounding houses.
As i am new to this i was looking for any advice or layout ideas anyone could help me with, or even if it is possible to make a studio in this space. This would be greatly appreciated!!
I have attached the sketchup file for any one that could help me.
Thanks
Jamie
Need some advice on a loft studio

Looks like a workable place if you're not planning on playing drums, bass or any loud music and still keep the neighbours happy. Building on the 2nd floor of any structure means that the whole floor needs to be decoupled from the structure or else all sound will be flanking through the floor into the surrounding walls and the rest of the house.
Read the stickys and tell us some more about your idea about this place.
What's your budget, what type of music, etc. etc.

thanks for replying Andreas
Im sorry ive not been very clear in my post the floor itself is actually on hangars so it isnt touching the truss chord below it unfortunately because the loft is done i cant take a picture or anything, but i an do a drawing if that would help. At the moment in the live room i just have my amp and so far ive tested the sound transfer to the rooms below by basically cranking it up high and going downstairs and you cant hear anything, the only problem i have is sound transfer to the outside.
At the moment i cant afford to do it but in about a month maybe 2 i plan to start doing something budget being around about £1000 but my dad works at my local hardware store so i can get discount
Type of music my band is Thrash metal, but this isnt the only type of music i want to be using this space for.
Drums I obviously will need to record but i will have to approach that when it comes to it.
Ive attached a quick idea that i had you'll have to excuse my bad drawing, but this is something what i was hoping for, you will have a better idea than me
Thanks again for your help, let us know if you need more info or anything
Cheers
Jamie

Could anyone advise if i need to provide more information?
I have attached a picture of my quick idea of what i imagine to do with the space any opinions are very welcome.
One thing i am interested in is would it be better to block off the stairs to the bedroom below with a door?
Thanks
