Hey Guys, i'm new to this site and i need some help.
I'm a Pro Tools Engineer with a small home project studio. I have my computer and setup in a bedroom with a closet that has been converted into a vocal booth. I've recorded guitars, percussion, violins and vocals at my house but now i'm needing to record drums. I have the appropriate gear but not necessarily the space yet. I can record in my living room but the neighbors will probably kill me. I have a 1-car garage that i want to make into a "live room." I don't own this apartment so i don't want to do anything too permanent or costly, but i want to be able to record drums.
The garage is 1 single car unit sandwiched between two other single car units, there's 1 building with three single car garages. there are (studs and stucco, no insulation) exterior walls but the walls between our individual units are studs with 1x6 wood planks nailed to them with about a 4 inch gap from the ceiling. There is an aluminum sliding panel garage door that is manual for each unit.
The unit is 17'4" deep, 8'6" wide and 8'5" tall.
I have and use 3lb insulation, i buy them in sheets that are 2"x2'x4' and i wrap them in burlap. I was thinking about suspending some of these about 6" from the ceiling. I know it's not a studio live room but i want a sound that's not too dead, but not live enough to hear that i'm in a tiny room.
Suggestions on what to build please? Maybe some elaborate gobos that aren't fixed to the unit? Most of these recordings will be for pop/rock stuff i'm assuming. I plan to use about 10 mics, and was hoping to use some sort of room mics too.
Thanks guys,
