Lintel is now in place and framing continues. There is a 50mm cavity between all walls and this includes around that beam above the opening. The steel studs in the pic which "look" to be directly in line with the existing timber studs are in fact not fixed at this point.
The black frame is a server rack which is now on wheels and will tuck neatly into what will become my "machine room"....exactly where it stands in the pic.
Does this thread now need to be moved to "Construction"?
Finally, it's time to get started.......no, seriously!

Question: How light is too light for insulation which is to be used betwen studs in the walls? Walls will be 2 layers of 16mm Fyrcheck > 50mm air gap > brick.
I tend to mix at low to medium volume levels.
The reason I'm asking is that there's an unbelievable amount of insulation on the market ( ebay ) at the moment ( thanks to a failed Gov't scheme ) and the "pink fluffy stuff" is out there in abundance for very low prices.
I contacted this seller ( link below ) who has some Fletchers stuff to find out the nominal density and he tells me that he's worked it out to be about 8.23kg/m³

Thanks, Brett
That's probably a bit TOO light for acoustics. I wouldn't go less than about mid 20-something kg/m3.

Excellent, I'll see what I can find. Thanks Stuart. :D
Due to lack of responses over the past few days I was beginning to think maybe I was the only one who could see my posts :(
Sometimes everyone is busy, other times there's a lot of active threads and some slip throught the cracks, so to speak.
At least, that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!!!! :)

lol, please, no offence intended...I can see by the amount of active threads and studios being built how busy you guys are AND you still have lives to lead away from the forum. Any and all input is appreciated.
No problem! If your thread doesn't get a reply after a day or to, sometimes just posting a "bump" helps to bring it back to the top of the list, where it should get attention.

Hi Raynold, welcome to the forum. :D
We're all here to learn my man....and relying heavily on all who have gone before.
I realised I posted my layout without explanation of what any of the spaces represent - hope this helps.....
I'm so confused about insulation!!
Global terms/names are all different....
So from the reading I've done I'm chasing GLASSWOOL batts to fit between studs on both internal and external walls as well as ceiling. I chased up "pink fluffy stuff" which is discussed so often and found that most are too light weight. Just to clarify again, my wall contruction is 2x layers 16mm on steel stud > 50mm gap > brick. Stud/track is 90mm wide.
I've gone through dozens of build threads on here and found walls fitted with pink batts & yellow batts but the only ones where I can actually see product packaging or something recognisable are the blue plastic bags that contain SOUNDSCREEN
I have no idea why but it also seems that 430mm wide batts are SO much easier to find than 580mm ( which I need )...I thought 580 stud spacing was standard ( not that it's a big issue, I just thought it weird ).
Edit: Deanne used BOTH coloured batts on her build :D ...but what was the product?
Bump :(
Hi qiktune,
Insulation that I used in my 2x4 framed walls [24" oc]
was by
Johns Manville. Thermal & Sound Control.
What's nice about it, it is Formaldehyde-FREE. 8)
Other product choices are the, obvious, CORNING fiberglass.
I would think they are worldwide.
Thanks RJ. Keep the pics coming on your own build, it's looking great!
