I've been working on a good size studio here in town for quite some time (3 years+). The studio was none other than a John Sayers design and I was really excited about it. Unfortunately, due to the current real estate market I'm going to have to shelve the current design. However, I *am* building a new house with a basement that will allow a moderate size facility. So all is not lost. Attached is the floor plan. We have formed the pour-in-place concrete walls but need to clarify some things: Star Grounding: We have a 600 amp service to the house with 3 sub-panels but wanted to know if we have to star ground the entire house *or* just the outlets that would be connected to the home theater/live room or other areas that would have audio equipment attached. The house will be about 8000 sf and I'm sure it would be costly to do the entire house. I've read through Ron's book but could not find details (Ron - your reference material is impressive, though!) My electrician wants to put in two ufer's due to a local code - I don't know if this causes other issues. The basement clear height will be 10.5' and will have a concrete slab for the lid. I don't want to go crazy here with the design, but by building from the ground up, I feel that I can build a great studio that I can have live performance and recording capabilities that will be nominal.

looks like it should be a very nice space. probably would have been nice to have separate floors for each room instead of single large slab. i'd probably use RSIC EXT-04 to preserve the ceiling height and get better isolation than the RC will. walls should be fine but you probably want to contemplate the impact of the hallway and/or angled boundary wall in the control room - probably want to make the CR rectangular instead and seal off the hallway.
