HI
And thanks in advance for your input.
I have a small 2 room studio built in my garage and I am trying to iron a few things out.
Please refer to the pdf file for dimensions
It is built using standard 2x4 framing with rockwool insulation. The walls and ceiling are layered as follows 1 layer sheetrock 1 layer pressed soundboard 4" rockwool insulation 1 layer pressed soundboard 1 layer sheetrock. the floor is cement covered in carpet. There is a cement foundation wall 2' high spanning the whole wall opposite the entrance door and the back wall of the 2nd room. I am currantly using the larger room as a control room. The smaller room is used for tracking drums, guitars vocs etc.
I have built rockwool insulation panels 2'x4'x4" that are hung from the ceiling diagonaly as bass traps in 3 corners. The corner with the entrance door has 3" acoustic foam covering the whole corner. There are 5 panels on the paralell walls 2 on one side 3 on the other staggered in placement.
there is a solid wood door with a double pained sealed glass window for line of sight. The back wall has 4 auralex tfusors filled with rock wool insulation covering 4 square feet of the back wall. There is no treatment on the ceiling.
The tracking room has 2 rockwool panels hung from the ceiling on either side of the door the ceiling is covered with 1" acoustic foam the walls are covered with 1'x1' 1" acoustic foam panels in a checkerboard pattern.
My Questions are as follows
1.Would it be beneficial to move the control room into the smaller space
giving me the larger room for tracking and possibly having more tonal options in the recording process.
2.Will wood floors make a difference in the tracking room?
3.Are there any construction improvements I can make on both of these rooms to improve them for recording and mixing purposes.
I have 500.00 to 750.00 budget for improvements if needed.
Thanks again to all of you for helping us all make better recordings

If you export that SMARTDRAW pix to a .jpg instead of a.pdf and post it here it's easier to see and comment on.
Thanks
Here is a jpeg of the layout
Thank you.
Now, for the questions:
I'd go for a slightly lager tracking room indeed. Depending on what you want to record. If only vox, then a small vocalbooth will do. Will there be a complete band in the tracking room?1.Would it be beneficial to move the control room into the smaller space giving me the larger room for tracking and possibly having more tonal options in the recording process.
Have you actualy read this forum lately? That Q has been addressed many times. Look in the accoustics part of the forum. Read and read again, much good info there! (yes, you prolly want wood floor. Compared to carpte it's more transient)2.Will wood floors make a difference in the tracking room?
Sure. Isolation and accoustics have been addressed many times on the forum. Again, take some time to read the goods here. Maybe you'll figure it out then! (I'm only trying to avoid having answered the same questions over and over again)3.Are there any construction improvements I can make on both of these rooms to improve them for recording and mixing purposes.
For accoustics or also some extra construction? That's not a lot to go for.... Depending on your plans.I have 500.00 to 750.00 budget for improvements if needed.
