I need help with the placement of bass traps in my tracking/mixing room in my studio.
Where would be the most beneficial for me to place traps?
How many would be most beneficial for the room?
The room is 18 by 21 by 10, (excluding the pool table room)
All suggestions are appreciated
Thanks,
Jeff
Need Help With Bass Trap placing...Where and How many?

The corners are a good place to start! Not just the corners between walls but corners between a wall and ceiling and/or floor.
Hope this will get you started.
HOOK
I agree with HOOK, depending on the style of bass traps you are using.
As far as how many: as many as you can! The more you install the flatter your low end will get. So it's a question of budget vs aesthetics vs the sound you are after.
Well i was thinking about purchasing traps from GIK Acoustics or Realtraps.com......but there are only 2 wall to wall corners in my studio. Would placing one in the far bottom right corner really make that much of a difference considering the room dimensions?
Also, I've been hearing a lot about first reflection points and I'm not sure what they are, or how to find them....Could someone explain?
Thanks
So put more in wall-ceiling or even wall-floor corners. --Ethanthere are only 2 wall to wall corners in my studio.
Hey Jem,
The first reflection points are the key to creating a Reflection-Free Zone at the mix position. Without treatment, sound reflecting off the side walls and the ceiling will arrive at your ears slightly later in time than the direct sound from the speakers; these reflections will obscure the stereo image you hear, making it more difficult to adjust reverb, pan, etc.
An way to find the first-reflection points is to use the "mirror trick." Have a friend come help you with a mirror he/she can hold up against the wall, at your ear level. You will be sitting at the mix position. Have your friend move the mirror around the walls. Anywhere you can see your monitors in the reflection of the mirror, install absorption. Do the same on the ceiling (hopefully your friend is tall.... heh).[/quote]
